Vega may have produced some superb and interesting guitars, but they never matched the popularity of the company’s banjos. Although Vega built guitars throughout their history, guitars remained something of a sideline until the banjo’s popularity began to wane in the 1940s. Even then, Vega was slow to respond to trends in the guitar market; they continued to focus on archtops into the 1950s while their flat-top and solidbody models were never produced in large numbers. By the time the company started to diversify its range of flat-tops in the late 1950s, it was too late to make a big dent in the market.Vega Trumpet Serial Numbers
5 This is one of the most curious American-made ’60s guitars we’ve had, and while the serial number suggests 1963, the Needham Heights, Boston, address on the small paper label would peg production to 1966 or later. And of course Vega was sold to C. Martin in early 1970. Vega kept at it through the war years and a couple decades after, but the brand has always remained more in evidence for its guitars (some very cool indeed) than for its amplifiers, and of course banjos remained central to the catalog, too. Martin purchased Vega mainly as a way of adding banjos to its own lineup.
Any Vega flat-top acoustic is therefore relatively rare, but a tenor flat-top is particularly remarkable. The tenor guitar was developed as a crossover instrument that allowed tenor banjo players (and, vicariously, mandolin players) to double on guitar without learning a whole new tuning. It retained some degree of popularity into the 1940s as banjo players gradually acquiesced to the new reality that their instruments were rapidly falling out of favor and they sought a more popular sound. Major builders such as Epiphone,Gibson and Guild occasionally built tenor versions of popular guitar models into the 1960s, though usually on special order.
Vega built tenor versions of their catalogued models as well, but that’s not what this guitar represents. Download generals for mac. As thelabel attests, this was not just a special version of an existing model – it’s a totally custom instrument. It has a 17” body that appears to be formed in the same shape as an early version of the FT-J “Jumbo” model flat-top. The exquisite spruce and maple combined with a natural finish recall a contemporary C-71, though the back appears to be laminated like the Electrovox series. The black binding and embossed rosette is also unusual on a Vega acoustic, though similar material was used on the natural-finished version of the Triumphal lap steel. The slotted headstock is an interesting throwback to an earlier time, a feature that Vega abandoned in the 1930s.
Assigning a date to the instrument is difficult; there are no catalogs to reference, and serial numbers on Vega guitars are so random as to be meaningless. The overall styling suggests that it was built in the late 1940s to the mid 1950s. [See update below.] The instrument is mostly original, though there is a hole drilled in the heel from a later strap pin [now believed to be original]. The bridge saddle is a replacement as well, designed to improve intonation; the bridge itself is original, but curiously, it’s a Vega ukulele bridge rather than the conventional pin design used on most Vega flat-top guitars. Aside from a mark on the top where a sticker was applied, the guitar has normal wear and tear but no damage or repairs. Its sound is enormous despite the fairly thin body, with booming bass, clear highs and considerable volume.

When I purchased this guitar, I thought of it as a nifty piece of Vega history. As a custom-ordered, one-of-a-kind instrument, I knew I wouldn’t find it described in a Vega catalog. Much to my surprise, however, I did recently find itpictured in a Vega brochure from 1950.
Bando da Lua (“Band of the Moon” in Portuguese) was a popular Brazilian band in the 1930s through the 1950s known for their vocal harmonies. The lineup shifted over the years, but the group appears to have usually featured a tenor guitarist as well as a 6-string guitarist. Magic bullet suite for mac. The two musicians sometimes sported matching instruments, and they seem to have purchased matching custom Vegas around 1949. They also affixed matching quarter-moon marks (I’m guessing they were stickers) to the tops of these guitars, as they had done with previous instruments.Vega Guitar Models
By this point, they were closely associated with singer Carmen Miranda, accompanying her in the studio and in a number of films produced in the US. A 1950 Vega brochure reproduces aphotograph of Bando da Lua with Carmen Miranda taken to promote the film Nancy Goes to Rio, released that year. So, it turns out that this guitar is a piece of Hollywood memorabilia as well as a great instrument. Someone probably removed the moon sticker years ago, but thanks to its imprint in the finish, the guitar can still be positively identified.

Command and Conquer Generals operates like most other real-time strategy games, in that the player must construct a base, acquire resources, build various combat and support units, and defeat opponents.[4] Various unit types can be constructed, ranging from infantry to vehicles and air units. The player may control the United States of America, the People’s Republic of China, or the Global Liberation Army, and each side has its unique characteristics and abilities. The United States relies on an arsenal of high-tech weaponry and a dominant air force; however, it is the most expensive army in the game to maintain. China relies on the power of propaganda and hordes of troops and tanks to overwhelm their opponents, the drawback here being that its troops must be able to form the larger army in the match. The GLA is considerably weaker in a head-on engagement, and must rely on underhanded, sneaky, shoot-and-scoot tactics to defeat its opponents.
The game’s interface is similar to that of real-time strategy games such as Age of Empires or StarCraft. The player selects buildings to bring up build orders and purchase upgrades, and can select individual units to activate their special abilities. Structures are built by selecting dedicated builder units (U.S.A and China: Construction Dozer. GLA: Worker.) and placing the structure anywhere on the map.
As with other real-time strategy games, the various units have advantages and disadvantages against other units, and the player is encouraged to mix unit types in order to succeed and fight tactically with various unit abilities in order to win. For example, rifle infantry are capable of quickly killing other infantry types, but are vulnerable to light vehicles and dedicated anti-infantry/anti-air units such as tankettes and APCs, which in turn are vulnerable to main battle tanks, which themselves are vulnerable to missile-equipped infantry and aircraft.
As the game progresses and the player defeats enemy units in battle, the player will gain ’experience’ points, which are used to purchase ’Generals Abilities,’ unique abilities that range from enhancing units and unlocking new unit types to powerful air strikes, one-shot enhancements to units, targetable ’spawn points’ to drop or create groups of units anywhere on the map and even earn cash when you kill an enemy unit.
As individual units attack and defeat enemy units or capture buildings, they gain ’veterancy’ and become more powerful, much like the General commanding them. Higher-ranking units attack faster, have more health, and heal or repair themselves. A chevron on a unit’s picture represents that it has become a Veteran. Two chevrons represent Elite and three represents Heroic. Elite and Heroic units are the ones who can heal and repair themselves. In a single-player campaign, a player can play any of the three sides in any order, with each side’s campaign consisting of seven missions.[5] The storyline follows the order of China first, then the GLA, then the United States. Additionally, there is a training mission that can be accessed directly regardless of the player’s progress in the campaign. Games can be played both over the Internet or a local area network (LAN).[6] It adopts a similar format to skirmish mode whereby the goal is to eliminate the other team. The game’s interface is similar to that of real-time strategy games such as Age of Empires or StarCraft. The player selects buildings to bring up build orders and purchase upgrades, and can select individual units to activate their special abilities. Structures are built by selecting dedicated builder units (U.S.A and China: Construction Dozer. GLA: Worker.) and placing the structure anywhere on the map.
As with other real-time strategy games, the various units have advantages and disadvantages against other units, and the player is encouraged to mix unit types in order to succeed and fight tactically with various unit abilities in order to win. For example, rifle infantry are capable of quickly killing other infantry types, but are vulnerable to light vehicles and dedicated anti-infantry/anti-air units such as tankettes and APCs, which in turn are vulnerable to main battle tanks, which themselves are vulnerable to missile-equipped infantry and aircraft.
As the game progresses and the player defeats enemy units in battle, the player will gain ’experience’ points, which are used to purchase ’Generals Abilities,’ unique abilities that range from enhancing units and unlocking new unit types to powerful air strikes, one-shot enhancements to units, targetable ’spawn points’ to drop or create groups of units anywhere on the map and even earn cash when you kill an enemy unit.
As individual units attack and defeat enemy units or capture buildings, they gain ’veterancy’ and become more powerful, much like the General commanding them. Higher-ranking units attack faster, have more health, and heal or repair themselves. A chevron on a unit’s picture represents that it has become a Veteran. Two chevrons represent Elite and three represents Heroic. Elite and Heroic units are the ones who can heal and repair themselves. In a single-player campaign, a player can play any of the three sides in any order, with each side’s campaign consisting of seven missions.[5] The storyline follows the order of China first, then the GLA, then the United States. I finished building my USBtiny kit (that I got from you) and wanted to test it on a simple Atmega 48 circuit, but even after installing libusb 1.12 and Avrdude 5.8 several times, Avrdude keeps giving me an error telling me I still need to install libusb, recompile avrdude and then reinstall avrdude.
I was going to trying to test it with the command. ’avrdude -c usbtiny -p m48’ to see if it would talk to the chip, but it just gives me that error about needing libusb installed.
Just for the heck of it, I also downloaded Arduino 0017 and tried the burn boot loader option becase I know it suports the USBtiny. All I get is ’avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1’ when I do that.
I’m new to all this stuff and don’t understand why I can’t get avrdude to install with usb support.. HELP!!!

I finished building my USBtiny kit (that I got from you) and wanted to test it on a simple Atmega 48 circuit, but even after installing libusb 1.12 and Avrdude 5.8 several times, Avrdude keeps giving me an error telling me I still need to install libusb, recompile avrdude and then reinstall avrdude.
I was going to trying to test it with the command. ’avrdude -c usbtiny -p m48’ to see if it would talk to the chip, but it just gives me that error about needing libusb installed.
Just for the heck of it, I also downloaded Arduino 0017 and tried the burn boot loader option becase I know it suports the USBtiny. All I get is ’avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1’ when I do that.
I’m new to all this stuff and don’t understand why I can’t get avrdude to install with usb support.. HELP!!!
